PROPELLER Palms and Kodakidand have been shortlisted in ‘The Big Break Competition’ where Hot Press is giving an Irish band or solo act their big break by putting them on the cover of the magazine.
HotPress has blazed a trail since 1977, championing the best in Irish and international music every step of the way. The magazine’s cover is a hugely sought after prize for both homegrown and global acts. Now it’s the chance of Kodakid and Propeller Palms to get the big break that will catapult them to the attention of record companies, promoters, the media and potential fans throughout Ireland, the UK, US and beyond.
With support slots for The Minutes, Delorentos and The Noisettes under their belt, Kodakid are four young men in a hurry. Formed three years ago, they’ve honed an energetic indie sound ripe with cross-over potential. With radio starting to get behind them, they are sure to have a bright future.
Propeller Palms is essentially Paul Butler’s third shot at stardom and his aim has never been sharper. The frontman made a big splash in Neuro and ID decades back, and draws on all that experience (tours with Philip Lynott, wild nights out with INXS) to imbue his new vehicle with authenticity, danger and daring. Debut album ‘All In This Together’ found Butler in fine voice while their live shows have been nothing short of incendiary.
The public can vote to help decide the winner so it’s time for Waterford to get behind their local heroes! This is a vital stage in the process of selecting the winner and people can vote today at hotpress.com/thebigbreak where a track from each shortlisted artist is available for you to listen and vote for your favourite. The winning act will also be invited to play at a special Hot Press gig to launch their very own cover.
“The quality of the entries we received from right across the country was phenomenal and is a rich testament to the fact that there is such a wonderfully vibrant music scene in Ireland right now,” Hot Press editor Niall Stokes says. “Each of the shortlisted acts has staked their claim to appearing on the flip-cover of Hot Press and now we’re calling on the public to help us decide on the winning act.”
