TRAMORE woman Grace O’Sullivan has been announced as the local Green Party candidate in the upcoming General Election.

The Greenpeace activist previously ran for the party in the European Elections in 2014 and has spent almost 40 years attempting to change issues on a local, national and international level. O’Sullivan, the first woman to win the Irish Surf Championships, was eliminated in the 8th count during the 2014 elections.

She said she had been “very slow to rush into accepting” the party’s nomination but ultimately agreed after discussions with her family.

Speaking on her decision, O’Sullivan added: “The Dail needs people like me – activists with a strong sense of social justice…passionate people in touch with the realities of the challenges the people of Waterford and Ireland face on a daily basis.”
