Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following an assault in Dungarvan, which left a married man in a critical condition.

Gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene of an altercation outside a nightclub on Davitts Quay, Dungarvan shortly after 2am this morning. A man in his 30s, from Dungarvan, sustained a head injury during the incident. He was treated at the scene and removed by ambulance to University Hospital Waterford and has since been transferred to University Hospital Cork.
A man in his 20s was arrested this afternoon by investigating Gardaí and is currently detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Dungarvan Station. He can be held for up to 24 hours. A technical examination of the scene was carried out by local scenes of crime Gardaí.
