Waterford’s Thomas Barr ran a season’s best time of 49.10 to win the 400m hurdles against a top class field at Lucerne in Switzerland last night.
Coming into the race, six of Thomas’ seven opponents had run faster times than him this season but a scintillating home stretch saw him pull off a great win.
The Dunmore East man was second last turning the final bend but a devastating last 100m saw him claim victory from America’s Teejay Holmes (49.20) and Jamaica’s Shawn Rowe (49.27).
Thomas’ previous best time this season was 49.40 which he ran a couple of weeks ago in Slovakia.
After a good indoor season and now two wins for his outdoor season so far, Thomas Barr is shaping up nicely ahead of next month’s European Championships which take place in Berlin from August 7-12.
