APPROXIMATELY €52,000 worth of drugs were sized by Gardaí following a search of a car on the outskirts of the city.

An off duty member of An Garda Síochana spotted suspicious activity, which led to the car being stopped on Friday afternoon at 2pm at Grannagh.

The car was searched and two buckets of loose drugs, suspected to be D10 (Benzodiazepines) and a brown cardboard box of prescription drugs were seized.

Four men, all aged in their late 20s and from Waterford city, were arrested on suspicion of an offence under Section 15 Misuse of Drugs Act, 1977. A second car was also seized in a nearby location.

Three of the men were detained under the provisions of Section 2 Drug Trafficking Act at Waterford. The fourth was detained at Tramore Garda Station. All four have now been released without charge, and a file is to be prepared for the DPP.

The suspected illegal drugs have been forwarded to the Forensic Laboratory for analysis.
