(Waterford won 3-1 on penalties)

The Waterford Hockey Club men’s team travelled to the High School for the semi-final of the Irish Hockey Trophy to play against a Leinster Division 1 team Rathgar.
The game saw Waterford force and control the pace for much of the first-half having scored from their opening short corner with their specialist Ben Johnson at it again, ending the first half 1-1 with Waterford failing to convert their other short corner chances. The second half Rathgar came out fighting and controlled more passages of play but couldn’t get many circle entries with the resolute defence led by Rory Isaacs.
At full time the match went into shuttles with Waterford goal keeper Alistair Shute producing some terrific saves to send his team through to their first Irish final since 1973.
The final will be played at UCD on 13 April, against Northern Ireland Civil Servants who beat North Down in their semi-final encounter with the game ending with shuttles.
