THE assistance of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team has been sought after a suspicious device was found in the Lisduggan area of the city this afternoon.

Gardaí received a report at shortly after 1pm regarding a suspicious object, which was reported to be found in the back garden of a home in Central Avenue, Lisduggan. It is not yet known if the device is viable or not. Gardaí cordoned off the scene and requested the assistance of the EOD team, who are currently en route from Cork. When they arrive at the scene they will examine the object and take necessary action, if required.

Gardaí are asking those who saw anything suspicious in the area in the last 24 hours to contact them on (051)305300.
