PATIENTS and hospital staff alike have reacted angrily to the news that University Hospital Waterford’s theatre services will close – due to budget reasons – for four weeks this summer from July 22 to August 19. This is despite the fact that UHW has some of the longest elective waiting lists in the country.

The Waterford News & Star understands that during this four week period, an Emergency and Trauma Theatre will be open Monday-Friday with on-call and weekend theatre arrangements operating as usual.

For more on this, including reaction from patients, hospital staff, see this Tuesday’s Waterford News & Star.
