The Broad Street unit, which was vacated by Sam McCauley’s earlier this year

THE large retail gap in the city created by the closure of Sam McCauley’s earlier this year will be filled next month by Mountain Warehouse. The British retailer is the largest outdoor store in the UK with over 250 shops, and a further 350 stores globally.

The brand was first established in 1997 by founder Mark Neale and now serves over four million outdoor-loving customers a year. A spokesperson for the company said that their store is “unique because almost all its stock is exclusive to Mountain Warehouse”.

“Designing our own, top-quality products, and having them made to exacting standards, ensures that customers get top-quality products at very competitive prices,” the spokesperson added.

The unit in Broad Street was completely cleaned out last week and Mountain Warehouse will begin their own fit out in the coming weeks.

Waterford customers can expect to see an extensive range of equipment for outdoor activities, including walking, running, cycling, camping and skiing, with a wide range of supplies and clothing for the whole family.
