GARDAÍ are investigating incidents involving a fire attack and petrol bomb at two addresses in the city in the early hours of this morning.

Shortly after midnight Gardaí received a report of a fire attack at a house at Sylvan Drive, Grantstown Park. When they arrived at the scene Gardaí observed a car that had been damaged by fire, which had been put out. A rev of a motorbike engine and the sound of it taking off was heard outside the house around the time of incident.

At 3.45am Gardaí then received a report of a possible petrol bomb thrown at a house at Dominic’s Place.

Gardaí spoke with witnesses who confirmed that a petrol bomb had been thrown at the house. Damage was caused to the exterior of the property including the front door and guttering. One witness stated he may have heard a motorbike at the time of the incident.

The direction of travel was unknown. The scene was preserved for technical examination. Gardaí are checking CCTV in area and are carrying out house to house enquires.

No one was injured in either incident and no arrest has been made. The matters remain under investigation. Gardaí have not established yet if there is a link between the two incidents.

Witnesses or anyone with information about these incidents are being sought by Gardaí.
