THOUSANDS of euros worth of drugs were seized, hundreds of summons were served, several arrests were made and searches were carried out as part of Operation Storm.

The targeted tactical deployment of operational resources in took place in Waterford yesterday (Tuesday). Operation Storm is designed to prevent crime, disrupt criminal activity, apprehend criminals wanted on warrant, enhance road safety and bolster good public relations through education and awareness over the course of one day.

17        People were arrested for various offences ranging from burglary, theft and drugs

2          Premises were searched pursuant to drug warrants

7          People searched – under Misuse of Drugs Act

2          Detections for Possession of drugs for sale and supply

Heroin – €3,200 – Cannabis – €4,000

2          Detections for simple possession

11        Crime Prevention and Intelligence gathering checkpoints were conducted.  Three vehicles seized for no insurance or tax.

30        Proactive Crime Prevention Beat Patrols were conducted

10        Bench Warrants executed

3          Arrest Warrants executed for breach of Court Bail conditions.

115      Summons were served

16        Charges were preferred

3          Crime Prevention Stands were conducted

25        Curfew Bail Checks were conducted.
