Leo Varadkar has congratulated Boris Johnson on his party’s success in the UK General Election and pledged to work closely with him to ensure a smooth Brexit.
The Taoiseach and the British Prime Minister spoke by phone this evening and Mr Varadkar congratulated Mr Johnson on his election victory.
In a statement, the Government said the two politicians agreed there is now a significant opportunity to restore the Good Friday Agreement institutions, and pledged to work with the Northern Ireland parties to achieve this.
They also discussed how to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Ireland and the UK.
Both sais they looked forward to the smooth passage of the Withdrawal Agreement.
They agreed to stay in close contact in the period ahead.
