Visitor restrictions remain in place at University Hospital Waterford due to Infection Control concerns, a UHW spokesperson confirmed in a statement issued this evening.

“This is in the interest of patient care and in order to prevent the spread of infections within the hospital.”

The spokesperson stated: “Hospital Management have requested that any patients attending the hospital for outpatient appointments, please attend on their own where possible. A number of elective surgeries have been cancelled and affected patients will be contacted directly by the hospital and rescheduled as soon as possible.”

The statement concludes: “We regret any inconvenience caused to patients and relatives by these necessary measures, which are being taken in the interest of patient care. All infection control measures are in place and every effort is being made to manage and contain the spread of infection.”
