BUSINESSES across Waterford are making the decision today to close their doors for an unspecified period of time. It comes as more confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Waterford are expected. Bars such as Geoffs, Tully’s, The Hub, Jarrz, The Three Shippes, The Reg and more have announced closures, as well as large cafes such as No.9.

Speaking to the Waterford News & Star, Lisa Fitzgerald of No.9 said that it was “the only practical thing to do for staff and customers” while Donal O’Brien of The Reg said that he fears for all of the country’s businesses – big and small.

“The fear of the unknown is unprecedented here,” Donal said. “We’re closed from today, to protect our staff as well as our customers and it’s frightening to think that we have no idea when we’ll be reopening again.”

Some restaurants, such as Espresso and Loko have told their customers that their restaurant will close, but “in order to avoid lay offs” will continue to provide a takeaway and delivery service, on a day to day basis.

If your business is closing, or indeed if you’re endeavouring to maintain business behind closed doors and would like to let us know, please contact [email protected] and we will provide an up to date list as the day goes on.
