WATERFORD City and County Council has confirmed that Council operated car parking spaces are now free of charge for essential workers and those making necessary trips to pick up prescriptions or groceries as per national guidance.

In a statement released yesterday the Council said, “In our efforts to support all people who are providing essential services in Waterford City Centre and Dungarvan Town Centre, all Waterford City & County Council operated parking facilities will be free of charge until midnight of 11th April 2020.

“We ask people to park responsibly, to continue to obey normal parking rules and never to impede emergency vehicle access.”

Cllr Eddie Mulligan welcomed the move. Having receiving representations on parking tickets issued to medical staff fighting the COVID 19 disease in city centre, he requested free parking for essential and front-line services from the CEO Michael Walsh on March 20.

He urged the public to observe national COVID-19 advice at all times and only travel for essential work or collection of food or medicines.

Council car parking spaces are free of charge until April 11.
