AFTER spending 66 days in University Hospital Waterford with Covid-19, Thomas Gallagher finally returned home to his family today (May 19)

In all, four members of the Gallagher family were struck down with the virus, two brothers, a sister and a brother in law. Of all of them, Thomas’s illness was the most serious, having spent two separate periods in the intensive care unit.

Arriving home to Booterstown on the Dunmore Road on Tuesday, a clearly emotional Thomas was embraced by his family and thanked everyone for their kind words, texts and support over the last couple of months.

Speaking to the Waterford News & Star, Thomas said he was “delighted to be home”.

“I know people have spent longer in hospital but it was tough going,” he said. “I couldn’t be happier to be home with my family now.”
