A FIRE was started maliciously at Waterford Institute of Technology’s (WIT’s) Campus on the Cork Road in the early hours of this morning.

Gardaí received a call at approximately 3.08am to assist the fire service at WIT as there was smoke coming from a building on Campus.

The fire service was in the process of extinguishing a fire inside when Gardaí arrived. A window had been broken at the building and a fire was started maliciously.

CCTV was viewed and a suspect was observed in the area at 2.36am The suspect is seen exiting onto Paddy Browne’s road via the rear of WIT and then turning left.

The scene is being preserved for a technical examination. Damage only amounted to broken window and smoke damage.

Gardaí are seeking anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the area around this time to contact them. They are also seeking anyone with dashcam footage, who was in the area, to make contact on (051)305300.
