Independent Councillor, Davy Daniels has been named as Metropolitan Mayor.
He has served as Mayor of Waterford thrice previously.
Cllr Daniels was supported by fellow independent, Cllr. Mary Roche as being someone who holds people to their promises, and someone who has served since his election in 1974.
With ten votes, Cllr. Davy Daniels succeeded Cllr. Breda Brennan to the role.
In his inaugural address to the Council, Metropolitan Mayor, Cllr. Davy Daniels called for strength and clarity for Waterford going forward for a University and a strong North Quays development.
A strong 8 votes were lodged in support of FF Cllr. Jason Murphy.
