It’s going to be a very different year on the athletics front. Photo: Noel Browne.

At a Zoom County Board meeting on Wednesday evening last it was decided that there would be no County Waterford Track and Field Championships this year in any grade, all Munster Championships are also gone.
As of now the following National Championships will go ahead however, Senior and U-23 on August 22/23, U-17 to U-19 on August 29/30. Junior and U-23 Walks on September 5, Masters on September 6, Juvenile and Senior Combined Events on September 12 and 13. All events will take place in Morton Stadium Santry.

ROAD RACES
With regard to Road races they can go ahead but with many risks and restrictions to both athletes and organisers -completely new to all- as can be seen on the Athletic Ireland website. All have a responsibility not alone to yourselves but to the health of the entire population as by now all should know the greatest carriers of the disease are Human Beings of all ages, hence Social Distancing essential. There are sections on Road Race Event Organiser Guidelines, Road Race Volunteer, Staff and Marshall’s Guidelines, Road Race Participant Guidelines.
If you have already applied for a permit and wish to change it to 2021, you can contact [email protected] directly, they are carrying applications forward and they will try to facilitate a new date for you. Please ensure you clear this date with your County Board Even if you are organising an event without an AAI permit the exact same Conditions apply as above. What may be of interest to all is that West Waterford AC who have vast experience of organising road races are not organising any this year and may try the winter league in November all going well.
