History will be made in Waterford GAA circles this weekend as club games will be streamed live for a fee for the first time.
Fittingly the first game will be Ballygunner’s opening game in their bid for a remarkable seven Co. SHC titles in a row, as they take on Tallow in Fraher Field on this Friday night at 7.30pm.
The games will be streamed live on the waterfordgaa.ie and will cost €5 per game. Nemeton TV, who do all the live sport for TG4 and are based in An Rinn will provide the service.
All four of this weekend’s Co. SHC games will be streamed live. Just one game on the second weekend of matches (Abbeyside v Ballysaggart on Saturday, August 1) will be shown, before all four of the round three games on the weekend of August 8/9 will again be shown. No details have yet been provided about the knockout stages of the championship.
These games can be viewed on laptop, desktop, tablet, iPad or android smartphone. Also, it is easy to connect your device to your television so you can watch the action on a big screen from the comfort of your couch, with local commentators also.
Speaking to the Waterford News & Star today (Monday), Waterford County Board Chairman, Sean Michael O’Regan said, “this is a very exciting partnership between Waterford GAA and An Rinn based Nemeton TV, who are Ireland’s leading TV production company. With restrictions of just 200 at games at present due to Government guidelines, streaming the games will give hurling fans all over Waterford, Ireland and the World the opportunity to see our games which we believe is a great prospect for all. The games will be streamed through our webiste and will cost €5 per game.”
Sean Michael added, “Irial and all the team at Nemeton TV while entering this exciting partnership which will hopefully live long into the future of Waterford GAA, Seán thanked all board officials, club officers, players, spectators and the general Waterford sporting family for all the hard work that they have done for their local communities during this pandemic.”
At the launch of this partnership Nemeton CEO, Irial Mac Murchú was “delighted to be entering a collaboration with Waterford GAA and while in this very uncertain times with the current COVID-19 pandemic is very excited to be providing top quality GAA matches online to the Waterford public at
home and across the globe.”
