LEAVING Certificate results will be available today, Monday September 7, from the calculated grades portal. Results will not be available to collect from schools as in other years. A Statement of Provisional Results can be printed from the site, this is the only way to receive a hard copy of results, as this will not be posted to schools this year.

Inside the Portal:

Once students have logged into the calculated grades portal, they will only see their Statement of Provisional Results, not a detailed individual breakdown. However, on Monday, September 14 the portal will re-open and students will be able to see their percentage grade awarded per subject. This includes the percentages awarded by their school. This information will be needed if a student is planning to appeal a grade.

Appeals:

Grades can be appealed through the calculated grades portal from Monday, September 14 at 9am until Wednesday, September 16 at 5pm. There is no fee this year for an appeal. It is still possible that students who appeal a grade will be in a position to start college in 2020. However, if an appeal has to go through several stages, it will not be possible for a 2020 start.

Sitting the Leaving Certificate examination:

Students who opted to sit the physical examination, or those who have decided that they would like the opportunity will begin examinations on Monday, November 16.  For those students, it will mean a September 2021 college place, instead of 2020.

Key Dates:

  • 7 September 2020 – Issue of results to students and schools
  • 7 September 2020 – UCAS offers received by students
  • 11 September 2020 – CAO Round 1 offers received by students
  • 14 September 2020 – Appeals application process opens at 9am
  • 14 September 2020 – Students may submit a request to see the estimated percentage marks from their school and calculated marks from the Calculated Grades Executive Office through the Student Portal which will allow immediate access to this information
  • 16 September 2020 – Appeals application process closes at 5pm

Students who have applied outside of Ireland:

The results date of September 7 has allowed for an academic year start in the UK in 2020. This was the result of an agreement between the CAO and UCAS that dates would be extended.

Similarly, it has been noted that a high proportion of students have applied to educational facilities in the Netherlands. A co-ordinated effort between Ireland and the Netherlands has allowed for date extensions so students receiving their results on Monday 7 can still attend on time.

Additional student places:

Funding of €12.5m has been secured to enable 1,250 additional places to be available in high-demand courses. This decision is a move to reduce anxiety associated with the calculated grades process.

Student well-being:

The wellbeing of the students who receive their Calculated Grades will be supported through a number of additional measures:

  • the Leaving Certificate student helpline, at 1800 265 165, which is provided by the National Parents Council post primary (NPC-PP) will be available from 11am on 7 September for students to reach a guidance counsellor with any queries that they may have. This helpline will operate until after the CAO first round offers and is staffed by qualified guidance counsellors. Further details can be found here
  • HSE/HSE-funded service providers will be available to support students through the provision of e-mental health services, linked here
  • wellbeing resources developed by the National Educational Psychological Service are available here
  • the CGEO helpline will be available at 1800 111135 or 1800 111136 from 9am to 4pm from Monday 7 September to Wednesday 16 September. Outside of these hours queries may be emailed to [email protected]
