Gaultier made their bow in the 2020 JJ Kavanagh & Sons County Senior Football championship a winning one last night when they overcame a battling Kilcmacthomas at the WIT Arena.

Having suffered a heavy defeat to The Nire on Friday night, Kilmacthomas came into this game hoping for a much improved performance and that’s exactly what they got, but alas for them it still wasn’t enough.

There was little to choose between the teams in the opening quarter and at the first water break the sides were level on a score of 0-2 each.

The second quarter was equally as close and by the half-time whistle it was the Barony men who led narrowly on a score of 0-5 to 0-4.

This game swung in Gaultier’s favour just four minutes into the second period when JJ Hutchinson struck for the game’s opening goal.

By the second water break Gaultier led by 1-9 to 0-6 and a comfortable win looked on the cards.

However a fine goal by David Hallahan with three minutes remaining brought the Kilmac men right back into the tie but JJ Hutchinson chipped in with his second goal of the game (he scored 2-3 in all) two minutes into injury-time to seal a 2-10 to 1-6 win.

This results means that Gaultier and The Nire have now qualified for quarter-finals from Group B and they will meet each other on Sunday in Leamybrien to decide who tops the group.
