Dungarvan United AFC have become the latest sporting club in the West Waterford town to suspend activities as they released the following statement:

“Following a meeting tonight (Wednesday), the committee of Dungarvan Utd. AFC has decided to close our facility for a week, to be reviewed on a week to week basis thereafter. Starting immediately, Dungarvan Utd will be closed for all training, astro turf hire, matches and clubhouse hire.

“The club committee came to this difficult decision in light of the current circumstances and with the health of our members, mentors and supporters in mind. Each week, hundreds of players and families attend our facilities and at the present time, we cannot afford to put our football family and friends at risk by bringing these numbers together in Kilrush Park.

“We hope all our players and coaches understand our decision, as we know all will be disappointed. The decision will be revisited each Wednesday and communicated to all if a further extension is required. The season will be extended and as you are aware our 8 clubforce payments will cover the season from 1st July 2020 up to end of May 2021, or longer if season is extended beyond this. Please share this message with your players and parents where applicable. Committee of Dungarvan Utd. AFC.”

Speaking today, Club Secretary, David Walsh, said, “I can confirm that there are no suspected or positive cases currently in Dungarvan United AFC. We took the decision last night to help reduce social contacts in the town in the current environment. The club are also taking the opportunity to revisit our own Covid procedures and try to keep our members and families safe.”
