THE Waterford GAA County Board has stripped Dungarvan of its Intermediate County Football title, in addition to imposing a fine and six suspensions.

The Waterford News & Star understands that six club members/officials have been issued with suspensions ranging from eight to sixteen weeks. A fine of €1,000 has also been imposed and will be donated to a charity in due course.

Under the GAA’s disciplinary procedures for misconduct, a minimum of eight weeks suspension for individuals can be considered, in addition to disqualification, expulsion or fines.

The Board’s disqualifying the club was in line with rule 7.2E of the GAA’s official guide, which covers “misconduct considered to have discredited the Association”.

In a statement issued this evening, Waterford GAA commented: “Further to the investigation into matters arising from the Intermediate Football Final and the positive Covid-19 case, the Management Executive of Waterford County Board wishes to advise that the individual suspensions and the penalties of disqualification and fine for Dungarvan GAA Club, have been accepted. The Management Executive would like to thank the officers and members of Dungarvan GAA for their full cooperation with the investigation. Waterford GAA will be making no further comment on the matter. The punishments have been accepted by the club.”

The Board’s statement did not disclose the names of those suspended, the individual suspensions imposed or the size of  the fine.

The County Board followed up with a second statement to clarify the status of this year’s championship and promotion or not to the senior ranks for 2021.

“Further to today’s statement the Management Executive wish to clarify that as a result of the disqualification, Dungarvan are treated as forfeiting the game (the IFC Final) but as per the rules in the Official Guide the game shall not be awarded to the opposing team. Therefore, no team will be promoted from Intermediate Football this year.”
