The action is underway in Semple Stadium as Waterford go in search of a tenth Munster SHC title and a first since 2010 against reigning champions Limerick….

Waterford won the toss and are playing with the breeze.

There were 48,000 supporters in Semple Stadium when these two counties last met in a Munster SHC Final in 2007 when a Dan Shanahan hat-trick helped the Déise emerge victorious

5 MINUTES: Limerick 0-3 Waterford 0-2….Déise’s points coming from Dessie Hutchinson and Jake Dillon.

10 MINUTES: Limerick 0-4 Waterford 0-3….Cian Lynch for Limerick and Austin Gleeson for Waterford, nothing in it so far.

15 MINUTES: Limerick 0-6 Waterford 0-5…..Diarmaid Byrnes and Aaron Gillane from frees, while Waterford points from Austin Gleeson and Stephen Bennett from an 80 yard free

21 MINUTES: Limerick 0-9 Waterford 0-8: Two in a row for Peter Casey for Limerick, three in a row for Stephen Bennett for the Déise. A yellow card for Cian Lynch.

25 MINUTES: Limerick 0-11 Waterford 0-8: Two points from frees from Limerick, one each for Aaron Gillane and Diarmaid Byrnes

30 MINUTES: Limerick 0-13 Waterford 0-9: Limerick Waterford  Points from play by Gillane and Lynch and one from play from Kieran Bennett.

HALF-TIME: It’s half-time in Thurles and it’s favourites Limerick who led by a goal at the halfway stage on a scoreline of 0-14 to 0-11. Aaron Gillane got Limerick’s final score of the opening half after two frees on the bounce for Waterford’s number 12, Stephen Bennett. Six points each for Gillane and Stephen Bennett.

40 MINUTES: Limerick 0-14 Waterford 0-14: A great start to the second-half by the Déise…three points without reply, two from Stephen Bennett frees and one from play from Jack Prendergast have the sides level once again.

50 MINUTES: Limerick 0-17 Waterford 0-17: An Aaron Gillane free and a free and a point from play from Stephen Bennett and a lovely point from play by Austin Gleeson has the sides level once again

SECOND WATER BREAK: 0-18 each….all to play for…COME ON THE DÉISE

56 MINUTES: Limerick 0-21 Waterford 0-19: A point with his first touch from Seamus Flanagan and a point from play by Gearoid Hegarty is followed by an Aaron Gillane free. A second Jake Dillon point for Waterford.

60 MINUTES: Limerick 0-21 Waterford 0-19: Mikey Kearney for Kieran Bennett and Ian Kenny for Shane Fives

65 MINUTES: Limerick 0-23 Waterford 0-19: Two points from Graeme Mulcahy for Limerick. Waterford haven’t scored in 11 minutes.

FULL TIME: It’s all over, Limerick are Munster senior hurling champions for the 21st time. Final score: Limerick 0-25 0-21.

A great effort by the Waterford men, that comes up just short. But the 2020 hurling season isn’t over yet as they will no go into the draw for the All-Ireland quarter-finals.
