WATERFORD City & County Council has purchased (under the compulsory purchase order scheme) an area of land around the Clock Tower that they will use to create a new “South Plaza” which will become the landing area for the new bridge to the North Quays.
The council will commence a 2-3 month long site survey in January with a view to the main construction work commencing in August/September 2021.
Councillor Eddie Mulligan believes that the plaza will be a great addition to the city and the Greenway extension.
“This plaza is the start of reclaiming our Quays and the historic Clock Tower will be the focal meeting point for Greenways, pedestrians and cyclists to all enjoy Ireland’s oldest City,” Cllr Mulligan said. “We all want 2020 behind us, so roll on 2021 and the start of a better Waterford.”
