Minister for Education Norma Foley.

Although an official announcement is expected this evening, it has been announced by RTÉ News this afternoon that the Junior Certificate examinations have been cancelled for this year.

Furthermore, Leaving Certificate students are to be given a choice between a calculated grade and a written exam in each subject. Orals and practicals are expected to run as normal this year, with some amendments likely due to public health restrictions.

Leaving Certificate examinations are expected to run in June as normal, with adjustments to each exam to allow for more choice. Unions are being consulted with at present by Minister Norma Foley T.D, and it is understood that legislation is being drawn up to prohibit the lobbying of teachers ahead of being awarded a calculated grade.
