EARLIER today, government officials confirmed that from August 5, up to 100 wedding attendees will be permitted. This long-awaited announcement was welcomed by many with upcoming weddings. One such couple is Sylvia McNeill and Thomas Murphy, who are due to be married in October in the Tower Hotel. Speaking to the Waterford News & Star, Sylvia said “we are absolutely thrilled with the decision. Our guest list was always quite small, approximately 70 guests even before the pandemic. It was literally mainly family with a few of our very close friends, so to cut anyone from the list would have been heartbreaking, how do you make that decision?”
While the 100 guests announcement has been officially confirmed, there remains no clarity on live music at wedding venues, either indoor or outdoor. When speaking to RTÉ News at 1, Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly would not comment on whether the vaccination cert would be required for those attending an indoor wedding, only to say, “no decision is ever black or white.”
At the same announcement, it was confirmed that baptisms are also permitted to proceed in August, however Minister Donnelly said the government are advising caution around post-baptism celebrations.
