WATERFORD COUNCIL may have no choice but to completely close a section of the N25 between Youghal and Dungarvan early next month, in order to facilitate the resurfacing of a 1km stretch of road. The road closure has not been officially sanctioned yet, but if it is, a 50km diversion is to be expected by road users given the lack of hard shoulder on the N25. The area being considered runs for about 1km from the former council depot east of Youghal bridge to Tinnock Cross.
The dates in question for road closure are Tuesday, October 5 and Wednesday, October 6. Correspondence with regard to the proposed road closure must be made in writing to Director of Services, Roads, Water and Environment, Waterford City and County Council, City Hall, The Mall, Waterford, by 4.00 pm by September 17, 2021.
Diversions outlined by Waterford Council
East Bound Motorists
Turn left onto the R634 from Rhincrew Roundabout towards Tallow, then the N72 to Lismore, Cappoquin and onto the N25 to Dungarvan at Tarrs Bridge.
West Bound Motorists
From the N25 from Dungarvan, turn right onto N72 at Tarrs Bridge to Cappoquin, on to Lismore and then take the R634 through Tallow towards the N25 Rhincrew roundabout. The Ardsallagh junction, which lies immediately left and uphill east of Youghal bridge will be opened to local traffic, but is “not suitable as an official diversion route” says the engineer. However, it “may be considered for school transport”.
