THE South Eastern Theatre Group are back this spring with what’s sure to be another top class production. Winner of Tony and Olivier awards for best musical, Spring Awakening tells a story of adolescent anarchy and it comes to Garter Lane from Wednesday, May 11, to Saturday, May 14, with tickets on sale now.

Set to a score by Duncan Sheik (music) and Steven Sater (book and lyrics) Spring Awakening sees a group of teenagers – silenced and controlled by a censorious society – discover a new world of feeling and freedom outside the classroom, with beautiful and devastating consequences.

Spring Awakening is about change, within yourself, within others, and within time.

“Purple Summer” is an important symbol for the allusion of time – for it is a flower that blossoms every summer. Time passes, flowers are planted, blossom, and then they fade away.

Speaking to the Waterford News & Star about the production, Director David Hennessy said that the show was something “very different”.

“It’s certainly not your usual happy-go-lucky musical,” David said. “Shows like this do not come around very often but they are all the more important for that.”

You’ll read more about this show as we get closer to the show in May. Directed by David, it features choreography by Michelle Condon, design by Paul Barry, costumes by Avril Musgrave, lighting by Craig Cunningham, sound by Jason Fallon, and musical direction by Jimmy Brockie.

Ticket price €25 at www.garterlane.ie; call 051 855038 or drop into the box office at 22 O’Connell Street, Waterford City.
