Steve and Joan Smith from Kilmacthomas enjoying the Sunset Express at Waterford Suir Valley Railway

WATERFORD Suir Valley Railway (WSVR) will operate its ‘Sunset Express’ every Thursday from Thursday next, June 23 through to August 25 at Kilmeadan Station.

From 7pm to 7:30pm, guests will be invited to relax on the platform with a glass of Prosecco and strawberries while enjoying an acoustic music reception before boarding the train.

At 7.30pm, guests will be escorted to a private carriage on the train with a picnic box full of delicious seasonal and locally produced culinary delights from the award-winning Grow HQ to enjoy.

The train will then depart on a one-hour trip to Bilberry, along the banks of the Suir and the Waterford Greenway. On the return journey, you’ll watch the sun dance on the River Suir as it begins to set against the backdrop rural Waterford and South Kilkenny.

Said WSVR General Manager Maria Kyte: “We are delighted to partner with Grow HQ, Café to operate the Sunset Express again this year. Their chefs have created a wonderful picnic basket using the fresh wholesome ingredients the café has become renowned for. It makes it even more special that we are supporting another unique Waterford social enterprise.”

The Sunset Express is the only opportunity to travel the full 10-kilometre length of the WSVR from Kilmeadan to Bilberry Stations.

This is such a wonderful way to experience the Waterford Greenway. In recent years it has proven popular with groups of friends and social clubs and as a relaxed way to mark landmark birthdays, as well as wedding engagements! A minimum group of 20 is required to book the Sunset Express.
