Carroll’s Cross under construction

FEEDBACK regarding the €1.5 million traffic calming scheme at Carroll’s Cross has been positive, the July Comeragh District meeting heard.

In response to Cllr John O’Leary (FF), Gabriel Hynes, Senior Engineer for Roads said the general impression from the public to date has been positive. The bulk of the scheme is substantially complete, but there’s a small amount of sagging to be rectified. The next step is to carry out a speed assessment at the junction to see if the measures are working to slow down traffic. Following on from that a speed limit review is expected to take place later this year or early next year, subject to consultation with the TII and the Gardaí.

Meanwhile, Cllr O’Leary wondered if there was any update on the Carrick-on-Suir roundabout at Kilmeaden.

Mr Hynes stated that it is a PPP contract with TII and the Celtic Roads Group. TII advised the Celtic Roads Group to carry out a safety design, and it is hoped that works will be carried out later this year.

It is also anticipated that that works on traffic calming at Lemybrien will commence in the second quarter of 2023. Mr Hynes informed Cllr Liam Brazil (FG) that works should be finished by the end of next year.
