It will be brilliant to see full crowds back at the Tramore August Festival over the coming four days, for the first time since 2019. Photos: Noel Browne.

From this Thursday to Sunday, the wonderful Waterford & Tramore Racecourse on Graun Hill will come alive for one of Waterford’s greatest week’s, the Tramore August Festival, a tradition in the seaside town since the very early 1800s.
It has always been a highlight of Tramore and Waterford’s social and sporting calendars but it’s set to be even more special this year as it’s the first ‘traditional’ August Festival since 2019.
In 2020 the ‘Festival’ was held behind closed doors and in 2021 the numbers were limited to 500 per day but after a three year weight this great four days of racing is set to return bigger and better than ever this week.
If you’ve never been then I beseech you to give it a go, even if you’re not into horse racing, I’d be amazed if you don’t enjoy it and if you haven’t been since 2019 or for many years before that, give it a go again, once more I doubt you’ll be disappointed.

It all kicks off on Thursday with the HRI Ownership day with the Smartmoveproperties.ie Handicap Hurdle as the feature race on the card and there will be live music in all the hospitality areas and marquees during and after racing.

Friday is barbeque evening with all sorts of feasts being served across the racecourse. The EY Steeplechase will be the feature event and again there will be live music in all the hospitality areas and marquees during and after racing.

Style evening on Saturday is always a huge attraction.

As is tradition Saturday is the day to get all glammed up and enjoy an evening of great Flat Racing and entertainment as the judges, influencer Marietta Doran and Mike Taylor of Fitzgerald’s Menswear will be on the hunt for Tramore’s Most Styled Lady and Man.
The prize for most stylish man is a €1,000 voucher from Fitzgerald’s Menswear with €500 cash.
The most stylish lady prize is a two night stay in a deluxe room at the stunning Lyrath Estate Hotel in Kilkenny with complimentary breakfast each morning, a sumptuous dinner at the grill on an evening of their choice and a 30 minute spa treatment. (There will be €500 cash as well.) Runners up will receive a bottle from Black water Distillery.
There will be four finalists for both male and female. There is no registration, the judges will be talent spotting.
Winners will be selected in the style marquee after the fourth race which is off at 6:30.
The big race of the day on Saturday is the Core Bullion Rated Flat race.

Sunday is the Waterford Ladies Gaelic Football’s “A Day at the Races” Fundraiser. Of course you can pay in as normal on the day but if you would like to support the Waterford Ladies Footballers and their ‘Field of Dreams’ development fund then you can buy a ticket for €50 which includes entry to the races, race card, food voucher for the marquee and on-site public food venues, and entertainment from a live band. Not only will you be guaranteed a great day out but you will also be supporting a great cause. Find out more information or buy tickets for “A Day at the Races” www.fieldofdreams.ie or at Abbeyside Eurospar and Dungarvan Shopping Centre.

The betting ring is sure to be a hive activity over the weekend.

If you haven’t been to Tramore Racecourse for a while you might be surprised at the large variety of hospitality on offer…here’s a flavour of what to expect at the beautiful seaside track which has undergone huge investment in recent years.

Book into our Graun Hill Suite where you can enjoy a table for the day and a three course meal. With views out facing out towards Tramore Beach, there is no better way to eat your lunch.

The Bistro is an on-site restaurant that opens two hours before the first. With its self service meals, teas, coffees and pastries, the bistro is
great for something quick.

We are very lucky to have our own on site fish and chip shop here. Grab some of the best take away around to eat whilst watching the racing.

The Inside Track Bar has full bar facilities and TVs placed throughout the room. Why not treat yourself to a drink whilst still being able to watch top class action?

The Tote Bar is open to all. With its full bar facilities and TVs throughout, it’s a great place to watch the racing indoors.

The seaside track is definitely the place to be this weekend.

The Owners and Trainers bar has a full bar facility and can be located right next to the parade ring. This allows owners to enjoy a drink whilst still being able to see their horse pre-race. There are TVs located throughout the room meaning the action is never missed.
