Waterford FC Under 17 goalscorers in Saturday’s brilliant 4-0 win over Bray Wanderers were Polly Redmond, Cliona Kearney, Cathranne Fitzgerald, and Zara Corcoran.
The brilliant run for the Waterford FC in the EASPORTS Under 17 Women’s League continued on the road on Saturday afternoon as the Blues recorded a brilliant 4-0 win over Bray Wanderers in their game played at the Carlisle Grounds.
After super wins on the road against Shamrock Rovers and Carlow/Kilkenny, it was another journey that proved fruitful for this group as they scored two goals in the opening five minutes of the contest that put them in the driving seat.
The game was only three minutes old when Polly Redmond continued her brilliant run of form in front of goal with the opener before Cliona Kearney put Waterford in the driving seat two minutes later with a well-taken goal.
Waterford made a host of changes in the midway point of the second-half, and it didn’t stop them from scoring goals. The third goal arrived on 62 minutes when the goal machine Cathranne Fitzgerald found the net once again, before Zara Corcoran added a fourth goal six minutes before the full-time whistle.
This result now sees the Blues in a good position as they look forward to the quarter-finals of the competition with their final game of the campaign set to be home to Peamount United on Saturday, October 1, ahead of the knockout stages.
Waterford FC were pegged back by Athlone Town in their EASPORTS National Under 17 contest played at the SETU Arena on Saturday afternoon as the visitors recorded a 2-1 win. Calum Flynn gave the Blues a 24th minute lead, but Brandon Wykes levelled the tie on 51 minutes, before Roy Lawlor notched the winner seven minutes before the final whistle.
Waterford were also left disappointed by the same scoreline in their meeting with Carlow-Kilkenny in the Under 14 League. Darragh Kinch and Cameron Pedreschi put the visitors in the driving seat with two goals, and although Josh Davey pulled one back, they couldn’t find an equalising goal. The Under 15 and 19 teams weren’t in action over the weekend.
