Waterford woman Jennifer on First Dates Ireland.
A WATERFORD woman charmed audiences on the RTÉ’s dating show ‘First Dates Ireland’ this week.
Jennifer, 43, went on a date at the Gibson Hotel hoping to make a connection with teacher Barry, 46.
Before sitting down she said: “I’m not for everyone and that’s totally grand with me, but I’d prefer to be someone’s shot of whiskey than everyone’s cup of tea!”
The pair made a connection over their shared quirky sense of style, and it didn’t hurt that Barry looked like Jennifer’s type.
As she described to barman Neil, she tends to go out with men who have “the Jesus Christ look”.
Suitor Barry certainly matched that criteria, describing himself as part ‘vampire substitute teacher, Victorian magician.’
The pair bonded over a shared love of books, Spanish and her ability to whistle like a bird. Jennifer taught in Spain for several years, so the two had a back and forth showing off their Spanish skills.
In a moment of kismet, she mentioned the book she was reading ‘The Gulag Archipelago’ by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, only for Barry to pull out the exact same book.
On a deeper note, they talked about the importance of communication in relationships.
She said: “Relationships are never easy, so you have to be strong and it’s about communication. Definitely I would need someone who was able to talk and to not hide things, because I’m not very good at doing that!”
At the end of their date, both Jennifer and Barry said that they would like to see each other again, so a second date is in the air.
New episodes of ‘First Dates Ireland’ air 9.30pm Thursday nights on RTÉ 2 and RTÉ Player.
