Mount Suir

CLLR CRISTÍONA Kiely (Green Party) raised the latest problem at Mount Suir where a fire broke out in the underground carpark of the embattled apartment complex.

Speaking at the Waterford Community Safety Partnership meeting held recently, she said: “The residents living there don’t feel safe, for a variety of reasons which are well documented but most recently there was a fire set in the car park in recent days and to me this is of course a core safety issue.

“I’d like to know what is being done for the people of Mount Suir by the Partnership, the Gardaí and the Council to make sure that the residents feel safe.”

She continued: “When I saw the video of that fire, I was brought back to the fire in that carpark in Douglas, Cork a few years ago, which didn’t have people living on top of it but must have been an extremely scary incident for the residents.”

The fire referenced by the Councillor occurred in winter 2020 and destroyed up to 60 parked cars.
