Local Notes: Blue plaque honour, boost for woodland and cruise ship expected

Lots of events are taking place in the Dunmore East area

Mass Times in Killea Church this week ​ 

Wednesday, August 27, 7:30 pm. Friday, 29, 9:30 am, Sunday 31, 9:30am. 

Please note, Carbally, Mass, this weekend is on Saturday, August 30, at 6 pm, and from Sunday, September 7, to 11 am.

Blue Plaque Unveiled ​ 

On Sunday last, a Waterford City Trust Blue Plaque at the Fisherman's Hall, Dunmore East, in memory of its founder, Nanette Malcolmson, was unveiled by Minister Mary Butler T.D. 

The Malcolmson family was very good to Portlaw, also with their cotton mills and lots of houses for their workers. 

Earlier last week, John Burke gave a talk at the Fishermen's Hall on the Social life of Dunmore East, and Maria Walsh gave a talk on Malcolmsons Family influence on Dunmore East. 

All events were part of the Waterford Heritage Week.

​Funding for Woodland Pathway ​ 

Funding has been announced by Minister Dara Calleary for a new Woodland Pathway at Lacey's Wood, Ballymabin. 

The Pathway will be funded by the Outdoor Recreational Infrastructure Scheme and will connect Ballymabin to Killea.

Lacey's Wood is administered by Dunmore East Woods and Park Trust .

Tidy Towns Busy

Every Wednesday evening, members of the Tidy Town Committee here in Dunmore are out doing great work around the village, and many places they have been to look better for it. 

But residents themselves can of course, play their part too by tidying up their own little places, as can all businesses.

​Cruise Ships

The final Cruise Ship to call at Dunmore East this year on Thursday, September 11, when The Silver Dawn arrives with 623 passengers from 7am until 7:30pm. 

Please pass on the news to all local households and businesses. 

Athletics

Coming up on Tuesday, September 30, is the Annual Primary School Cross Country at the RSC playing fields. 

Usually it's attended by boys and girls from Réalt na Mara, Killea and Dunmore National Schools with short races for Boys and girls from 1st to 6th class. 

First event 11 am .Plenty of time to train for the event.
