Local Notes: Dancing Club, running club news, local lotto and riddle of the week

April 11 to 14, will see the return visit of the Bolger Cunningham School of Irish dancers, Liverpool, to the Sliabh gCua Set Club, Touraneena. The exchange trips have been occurring with over four decades.

The initial contact between these two groups of Irish dancers and musicians happened when our own Monnie Hallahan and Tommy Walsh, from Liverpool, met in Cahir House Hotel, in 1978.

It is fitting therefore that on this occasion during their visit, the group, lead by Tommy's daughter, Kathleen Cunningham, will stop off at Cahir House Hotel on the Friday evening as they make their way onward to Dungarvan.

A total of 64 people will be travelling in the Liverpool contingent.

After some down time exploring Dungarvan on Saturday, the group will come to the Community Centre in Touraneena for some nourishment, followed by mass in St Mary’s Church and then back to the park hotel for an informal night of music and dancing.

On Sunday the group will again travel to the Touraneena Community Centre for light refreshments at 11.30am, followed by a visit to Dunne's Bar.
Sunday evening will see us enjoying a meal in the Park Hotel, Dungarvan, followed by a cultural night of dancing and music.

If anyone would like to join us in the Community Centre on the Sunday morning for a cuppa, you are more than welcome, especially past members of the club who may have travelled over to Liverpool during exchanges in the past.

It promises to be a wonderful weekend so please feel welcome to join us.
For a while now, the club has been very busy behind the scenes planning our season ahead and we are delighted to say that we are starting back with a 12 week plan which was brilliantly constructed by Noel Drohan. Thank you Noel. Noel will lead us every week in a jog; this is for joggers wanting to improve their time. The track will also be opened for anyone wanting to walk or jog. We will be starting back on Friday night, April 11, at the Kirwan Park track at 7pm. On Sunday mornings, the meetings will be at 10am at the track.
Our 12-week calendar can be viewed on the Touraneena Runner's Club Facebook page and this year we have added in the Colligan league, organised by the West Waterford Athletics Club. This is a perfect way to get started and to keep up your training. You do not have to sign up for this if you don't want to, it's just a guide plan. Our calendar includes some of the West Waterford summer series races and we will be having Sunday runs on the Greenway in May (more details to follow closer to the time). The training is ending with the Viking 10k/half marathon/full marathon in June. This is not compulsory, it is personal choice and a great goal for anyone that is interested in running marathons. Training dates for April are as follows: Touraneena: Sunday, April 13, 20 and 27; Touraneena: Friday, April 11, 18 and 25; Colligan League: Wednesday, April 16, 23 and 30. Membership for the coming year is due and the costs are: Existing GAA members €20; Non members €30; Each night will be just €2 per night. We are looking forward to a busy and exciting season ahead.
The numbers drawn for the week ending March 30 were: 8, 12 and 27. There was no jackpot winner. The five €20 winners were Mary Power (c/o Sandra), Mary and James Cullinan, Marion Cliffe, Royco and Kay Ware, and Jonathan and Dean Carroll. The promoter's prize of €20 was won by Thomas Keane. Next week's draw is for a jackpot of €2,100.
