‘Standing together for West Waterford,’ Demonstration to be held in wake of violent incidents

The candlelit vigil will take place in Cappoquin on Friday, October 24.

A peaceful, candlelight demonstration is to be held in Cappoquin following a violent incident in the village last weekend, which left a man in critical condition.

The demonstration will be held in the square in Cappoquin on Friday, October 24, from 7pm to 8pm.

Cllr Donnchadh Mulcahy and TD Conor D. McGuinness issued a joint statement saying:

“This is about showing that violence and intimidation have no place anywhere in West Waterford.

“We stand united for safety, respect and peace in all our towns and villages.

I’ve been in touch with numerous people across West Waterford over the last few days, as well as with the family of the person injured.

“I continue to raise serious concerns about Garda numbers and visibility across the region.

“People deserve to feel safe walking their streets and we must send a clear message that this sort of behaviour is completely unacceptable.

“There must be zero tolerance for violence or antisocial behaviour, and we cannot simply move on and forget.

“This is about standing up for one another and making it clear that West Waterford will not be defined by fear, but by community and solidarity.

“All are welcome to join this peaceful demonstration. Please bring a candle and let’s show what community really means.”
