UPDATE: Teenager who died in Waterford e-scooter accident lived near where accident occurred

The teenager who died following a collision between an e-scooter and a bus in Waterford City in the early hours of Thursday, June 27, lived close to where the accident occurred.
Gardaí are currently at the scene of the fatal collision which occurred at approximately 1.10am on the R680 Cork Road in Waterford city.
Waterford News & Star has learned that the person who died, who was travelling on the e-scooter, was 15 years of age. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
It's believed he was from the Ardmore Park area of the city, close to where the accident occurred. Another male youth in his teens who was also travelling on the e-scooter was taken to Waterford University Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the bus, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was uninjured. The teenager who died is also believed to have played soccer locally.
The Cork Road is currently closed from the South East Technological University (SETU) to the Ring Road and a technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators is being conducted. Local diversions are in place. Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam), who were travelling on the Cork Road in Waterford City between 00.45am and 1.15am are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
